We are currently seeking to hire two Ph.D. students in the area of geotechnical engineering, rock mechanics, and material characterization, with expertise in experimental testing or computational modeling at Rowan University. The expected start date is September 1, 2019.
(1) Position 1 focuses on the characterization of fracturing and healing behavior of rocks under multi-physics processes. The project involves experimental characterization of fractures in rocks, development of constitutive models, and Finite Element implementation and modeling. Prior experience in continuum mechanics, lab testing of rocks (e.g., X-ray CT, triaxial testing), or numerical modeling and programming is preferred.
(2) Position 2 focuses on the nondestructive characterization of soil and pavement profiles. This research involves lab-scale determination of material physical properties, and field evaluation of non-destructive characterization tools. Prior experience with the laboratory (e.g., electrical and thermal testing), field and geophysical testing (e.g., wave-based method, CPT) of soil is preferred.
Requirement for Admission: Bachelor/Master degree in civil engineering, mining engineering, petroleum engineering, engineering geology, geomechanics, applied mechanics or related disciplines. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
